For quite some time now, Microsoft has entered the cellular phone market and has tried to impose itself with phones that have Office and Windows mobile applications. An example of this kind of phones is the HTC’s 3G smartphone ‘Touch’ that Microsoft recently introduced during the CTIA 2007. "Touch" uses Windows Mobile 6 Professional and Office Mobile for built-in Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word editing. The ‘Touch’ smartphone features a touch screen navigation with an overlaying GUI called ‘TouchFlo’ that will allow users to easily surf through media libraries and that will also provide easy scrolling for web pages or documents. The phone has a 2.8-inch QVGA screen, which means a great image quality, a microSD card slot with an included 1GB card, which will allow you to store your favorite media files and a 2M camera that seems to be the standard in the currently released mobile phones worldwide.
The Touch smartphone also supports 802.11b/g WiFi and Bluetooth connection that will allow you to easily access your emails and your favorite online content as well as watching Sprint TV, live. It also gives instant access to the Sprint Music Store so that you can download and listen to your favorite music. Up until now, Microsoft has not yet managed to gain a substantial corner in the mobile phone market that is currently dominated by other companies including Microsoft’s arch software rival, Apple. This compact, versatile and especially stylish smartphone is without a doubt, thanks to its features, a phone to liking of the general public and is meant to impose itself on a market currently dominated by Apple’s iPhone. Touch is expected to be released from Sprint on the US market in November and it will remain to be seen what impact this new phone will have as well as the consumer’s response to it.
