The Tour de France has been given a major overhaul for two thousand and eight as organisers try to revamp its tarnished image. Time bonuses have been scrapped. Also the first time since 1966, the race will start with a 195km stage and not a time trial. The idea is to give more riders rather than time trial experts a chance to compete for the coveted yellow jersey.
